New Addition to Airport's Fire Engine fleet

04 July 2008

fire engineThe Airport Fire Service has just taken delivery of a new state of the art airport fire appliance, an Amdac-Carmichael Cobra 2. This is the first of an order of two to replace and update an aging fleet of vehicles. The thirty tonne vehicle is fitted with a 700bhp Caterpillar engine which, in addition to being able to drive the appliance in excess of 70mph, also meets all the new European emission standards. The vehicle carries almost 11,000lts of water and 1,500lts of foam. It also has on board 100kg of dry chemical, for use on metal or three dimensional fires, contained in two demountable 50kg containers. This new addition to the fleet together ensures that the Airport Fire service is well equipped to deal with any future emergencies that may occur as the Airport expands to receive new types of aircraft in the coming years.
